Posting expires: September 23, 2025 Salary: $47,474.94 - $63,379.04 General Description and Classification Standards: This position provides direct technical support to a Pollution Control Monitor, Supervisor & Field Engineer to install, maintain sewage flow monitoring equipment as directed that is used for: Monitoring the sewer collection system, billing surrounding municipalities that utilize City of Atlanta wastewater services, rainfall monitoring and surface water monitoring activities and capacity certification to insure compliance with City, State, and Federal Water Pollution Control Regulations, the First Amended Consent Decree & Contractual wholesale wastewater obligations. This position is a seasoned, technical lead position charged with the responsibility of highly technical monitoring equipment installations and repairs for the Department of Watershed Management, Environmental Monitoring Division. Position acts as a technical lead for entry level employees, advises intermediate supervisors. Areas of responsibility are typically unique within the department. This position also plays a crucial role in the Interjurisdictional flow monitoring program, assisting in billing interjurisdictional customers for their use of Atlanta wastewater treatment facilities. They lead daily tasks for the team. They also design and maintain solar systems in the field, Supervision Received: This position provides direct support to the Pollution Control Monitor Supervisor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair sewer flow monitoring equipment in manholes, surface water monitoring stations, remote camera stations and rain gauges for use in hydraulic modeling studies, wholesale wastewater billing and SSO mitigation efforts. Assists staff in remediating spill sites by removing debris and disinfecting areas for proper cleanup and disposal of related sanitary debris. Monitors historical problem sites due to precipitation through websites and rain gauges throughout the City for site inspection and field actions. Locates, identifies, and inspects asset issues, notifies inspectors, and visits spills at facilities or sites in the service area, locating new issues for correction. Monitors and protects waterways of the State through inspection of creeks and stormwater drainage systems within the City of Atlanta. Attends meetings with modeling staff and IJ partners, gathers and disperses information from these meetings. Conducts color dye tests and sonar tests for flow and blockage results. Performs Class 1, 2, and 3 repairs (High/low Flows, Dead batteries, sensor failure, lighting damage, modem reset/failure, Data retriever, etc.). Performs site maintenance (Manhole entry, equipment installations, programming equipment, cutting trees and grass). Performs office and warehouse tasks (Data processing for IJ analysts, inventory management, safety meetings, mandatory classes, and daily vehicle inspections). Uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). May perform other duties as assigned. Must be able to read, understand, and interpret technical reports, technical manuals, and related material Minimum Qualifications: Applicants for this position must have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental, Biological Sciences or Geophysical Science, OR equivalent combination of experience which will be considered under prescribed guidelines & at least one year of experience in Flow or Remote Monitoring. Licensures and Certifications - Applicants must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License at the time of appointment.License must remain valid while in this classification. Applicants must be able to pass both state and federal background checks Preferred Requirements - Sewer flow monitoring experience, process control, mechanical/maintenance experience, engineering OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Work Environment: Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with the job. Job duties will be conducted in inclement weather year-round and may require traveling on foot through areas with no developed access.
