Job Title: Part-Time Shift Manager

Department: Grocery

Reports to: Store Manager

Exempt Status: Non-exempt

JOB FUNCTION: This role is essential for managing the opening and closing shifts, focusing on maximizing sales and profits while providing exceptional customer service and managing labor costs effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service: Always prioritize customer needs with a welcoming attitude. Ensure that customers feel valued and handle their inquiries efficiently.

  1. Financial and Operational Responsibilities:
  2. As the Night Manager, you will close the store for 5 days a week, with any schedule changes requiring prior approval.
  3. This position serves as a backup to the Store Manager; you must be familiar with the manager's responsibilities and step into their role when they are away.
  4. Conduct a store tour at the end of each day to assess conditions and communicate findings to department heads and the store manager before the next day.
  5. Provide support to cashiers when needed.
  6. Prepare grocery orders, ensuring timely submission.
  7. Always obtain authorization from HR, Operations Supervisor, or COO before making any cash disbursements.
  8. Review invoices meticulously for any discrepancies or shortages.
  9. Check in all vendors at the front of the store under surveillance.
  10. Adhere strictly to all policies and procedures.
  11. Ensure all resets and new merchandise are effectively integrated into the sales floor.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store to comply with state codes and regulations.
  13. Leave detailed notes for the opening manager regarding any important events from the previous night.
  14. Employee Responsibilities: Coordinate with the Store Manager on all duties.
  15. Ensure adherence to store opening and closing accounting procedures.
  16. Be fair and consistent with all team members.
  17. Provide ongoing training and support to staff on best practices in their roles.
  18. Keep attendance records updated.
  19. Address employee complaints by providing a listening ear and keeping accurate records.
  20. Immediately report urgent matters (e.g., harassment, discrimination, safety issues) to Store Manager, HR, or Operations Supervisor.
  21. Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to clearly understand and convey complex verbal instructions among supervisors and co-workers.
  2. Pass a basic physical examination and drug screening.
  3. A stable work history with a solid educational background.
  4. Basic math skills, including the ability to perform simple calculations and verify customer transactions.
  5. Ability to handle customer items carefully and ensure safe transportation without damage.
  6. Proficient in reading, writing, and comprehending English, including understanding labels and reports.
  7. Able to make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and employee management.
  8. Strong interpersonal communication skills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Previous cashier experience.
  3. Prior supervisory experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  1. Basic math skills including counting, adding, and subtracting.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Ability to solve practical problems in varied situations with limited standardization.
  2. Understand and interpret various forms of instructions provided in multiple formats.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. The role demands mobility for various tasks, including training staff and managing the front end of the store.
  2. Ability to work for long durations on hard surfaces such as tile or concrete.
  3. Engage in hands-on duties akin to those of a cashier while training new employees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position involves indoor work with potential exposure to temperature fluctuations, dust, and humidity.
