Talent4Health is seeking a travel nurse RN Orthopedics for a travel nursing job in Jackson, Mississippi.

Med Surg / Ortho 2 years recent exp required  Required Certifications & Skills
  • Certs:
    • BLS (required) RN compact license and 2 references required
    • ACLS (only required for Charge RNs)
  • Required Experience:
    • Experience in Level 1 Trauma center
    • Comfortable with lines, chest tubes
    • Background in high-acuity , surgery-heavy environments
Radius Rule: Must reside outside 50-mile radius to be considered non-local   Unit Overview: 5 North MedSurg Ortho

Patient Population: Ortho (post-op total joints), general med-surg overflow

Staffing & Ratios
  • RN:Patient Ratio:
    • Typically 1:5
    • Occasionally 1:6 for lower acuity
    • Adjusted down for higher acuity patients
  • Charge Nurse:
    • On all shifts
    • Typically takes a light assignment , may take full load if needed
  • Nurse Aides:
    • Available on all units
  • Float Requirements:
    • Expected to float to other MedSurg units within skillset
    • Higher acuity patients assigned to core staff
  Clinical Details
  • Common Diagnoses: Ortho surgeries, post-op joints, med-surg overflow
  • Tele Monitoring:
    • Tele-capable units, monitored centrally
    • RNs are informed of changes via central station
    • 3 South is primary tele unit
  • Drips:
    • Heparin (titrated on this unit)
    • Amiodarone may be initiated here, but patient then transferred
  • RT Equipment:
    • CPAP, BiPAP (mostly at night), RT assistance provided
    • High Flow available on 2 North
  • Monitoring Equipment: Central monitoring stations; brand not specified
Scheduling & Shifts
  • Shift Times:
    • 12-hour shifts: 7a–7p or 7p–7a
  • Scheduling:
    • Self-scheduling not guaranteed
    • Travelers fill schedule gaps
    • Managers try to accommodate block scheduling if possible
    • Weekenders accepted if traveler prefers
  • Weekend Requirement:
    • Every other weekend or 2 weekends/month
  • Holiday Requirement:
    • Rotates with core staff
  • Call/Standby: None
Orientation & Onboarding
  • Fingerprint Requirement:
    • Remote: Allow 10 days for processing
    • In-person: Available at Jackson or Grenada campuses the week before start
  • Orientation Schedule:
    • Day 1: Paperwork, logins (Omnicell & Epic), tour, scheduling discussion
    • Additional: 2 shifts with preceptor
  • Scrubs:
    • Solid, professional colors
    • Any color allowed
